OCTOBER NEWS :
🪖 Cloth-covered Hawley liners are here !
🇺🇸 All shipments to the USA are suspended indefinitely
HISTORY & USE :
Hawley fibre liners were commonly used during the early war period. In fact, it is difficult to do an early war impression without one... They were extensively used by the USMC in the Pacific (Guadalcanal, Gilbert and Marshall Islands, etc).
Question is whether you want to use a real one for reenacting? They are quite rare, very fragile, and especially the ones in good and usable condition have become very pricy...
With this super durable and functional reproduction, no need to worry about taking your fragile and priceless cardboard liner into the rain and mud during reenactments.
LINER SHAPE :
This repro liner was made from measurements of an original WW2 Hawley model. So the very distinctive dome and brim silouhettes are faithfully reproduced.
LINER MATERIAL :
Original Hawley liners were made of compressed cardboard fibre, and covered with a cloth stretched over their outer surface, tucking under the rim into a bevel (a key characteristic of all Hawley liners). They were fairly fragile and prone to breakage, and could be damaged easily if they got wet.
For durability purpose during reenactments, this repro Hawley liner is made of solid plastic, and covered in OD green fabric.
LINER COLOR :
The interior and the exterior of the liner have two different shades of green like originals.
We also reproduced the inside marking : "LINER-FIBRE-M-1".
INTERIOR :
This Hawley is a "transitional" reproduction, it comes with the following features :
- High quality HBT suspension, neckband and adjustable sweatband
- Grey triangular metal washers
CHINSTRAP :
The leather chinstrap is a fixed first pattern model, rivetted to the liner shell.
PRICE :
We sometimes hear that our Hawleys are "too expensive" compared to other reproductions available on the market. Keep in mind that these other reproductions are often made from post-war converted liners, and do not have the right dome and brim silouhettes.
Our Hawleys are 100% handcrafted from A to Z. They require time, as well as very specific skills developped over many years. Keep in mind that making a Hawley liner is a long and highly complex process. The technique to properly stretch and glue the fabric alone required dozens of hours of unsuccessful trials and hundreds of euros spent on unsuitable materials that ultimately went to waste. This is why so few persons are able to make correct Hawley liner reproductions today.
Also, the price you see is not our margin, but our turnover. We then have to deduct the following costs :
Just imagine making a Hawley liner yourself from scratch - it would end up costing you far more, with an uncertain outcome 😉
ATTENTION :
⚠️ We recommend you to avoid installing and removing the liner hundreds of times from your M1 steel pot. Just install the liner in the steel shell, and leave it there.
⚠️ This Hawley liner repro is more solid and durable than original cardboard ones. However it is not indestructible. Take care of it like you would with a real one.
⚠️ This Hawley repro is not a factory mass-produced liner. It is 100% handmade by us from A to Z. Each piece is unique, and may present minor imperfections (3D print or glue marks, small fabric folds, etc.). No surprises, you will receive exactly what is pictured.
⚠️ There are a few other manufacturers making repro Hawley liners and parts. We cannot guarantee that our parts (liner shell, webbing, sweatband, snaps, etc.) are compatible with other original or repro liner parts available on the market.
⚠️ Just like the real deal, this repro Hawley liner will fit WW2-era high-dome M1 steel shells. We cannot guarantee it will fit post-WW2 low-dome M1 shells and clones.

I am François, founder and manager of ww2gear.
As far as I can remember, I have always been a WW2 history buff.
The ww2gear adventure started back in 2017 with the creation of the @ww2gear Instagram page. Since then, I have developed increasing interest for WW2 reenactment.
One thing led to another, and I quickly joined a U.S. Army reenactment group in Belgium.
Simultaneously, I started creating repro gear for myself and a few friends, in line with the concrete needs of WW2 collectors and reenactors. It quickly became a serious business, which led to a full time job in 2020.
Since then, I have managed and shipped hundreds of orders all around the world, and collaborated with numerous reenactment groups and other militaria professionals.
Most products available on this webshop are handcrafted by myself or individual makers, which explains the limited assortment strategy.
